The first session is called an initial assessment. While the session is loosely structured (including exploring topics such as significant life experiences, therapeutic goals, physcial wellbeing) my main aim to ensure I understand what has brought you to therapy and how we can work together. I know that this first session might feel daunting or intimidating so I will always aim to foster a warm and compassionate space.
-
The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some people may find they only need a few months of sessions while others may benefit from longer-term support. The length of therapy depends on the challenges you're working through and what you would like to get out of our work together. We’ll regularly review this and adjust as needed.
-
Sessions last 50 minutes from the starting time agreed. If the session starts late, I will not be able to extend the length of the session.
-
I offer weekly sessions, generally on the same time and day each week. In some instances, I can offer some flexibility, such as fortnightly sessions after a period of weekly sessions or different times or days each week to accomodate changing weekly schedules.
-
If you are unable to attend your session, please provide at least 48 hours notice from the starting time of the session to avoid incurring the cost of the session.
-
All in-session and outside session material (e.g. email correspondence) between us is confidential - I will not pass on your information to anyone outside therapy services, with the following exceptions:
Where you request or give permission for information to be shared.
Where the information you have disclosed is too serious for confidentiality to be maintained, including where I consider that you or others may be at risk of immediate and serious harm. I will always aim to inform you of this first.
If I am required to by law.
Additionally, as a psychologist I am required by my professional body to engage in regular supervision, where I will discuss anonymised aspects of our therapy sessions. This is also bound by confidentiality.
Supervision is essential in providing ongoing opportunities to reflect in depth about all aspects of therapy practice so I can work as effectively, safely, and ethically as possible.
